A village in Telangana called Pochampally is recognized as one of the world's best tourism villages by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO). It is also known as the "Silk City of India, in fact the Bhoodan Pochampally town had the title of being a ‘silk mine’ of India back in the 18th century. In 2004, it received the Geographical Indicator (GI) status, the town also received a special mention from PM Narendra Modi under the 'Vocal for Local'.
The name 'Bhoodan Pochampally' is the alternative name to the village because of the 1951 Vinoba Bhave movement against the wealthy land lords of Telangana, the village still have a 2-room house called 'Vinoba Bhave Mandir'
Pochampally ikat, is a sort of silk that was discovered in a community of Andhra initially Sarees were only woven in coarse cotton fabrics, but later silk became a popular choice of fabric, it comprises of various geometric shapes in many colours.
